***The following Applies to Travel in US and Canada***
Issues with Renting
If for any reason you are unable to rent a car from a particular company, please let the Assimilation Team know via the Submit a Request form prior to booking travel.
Age Requirements:
- US travel: Amazon's contract with rental companies allows you to rent a car at a minimum age of 18
- Canada travel: You must be 21 years of age or older to rent a car
If you are under the required age for your destination, please let the Assimilation Team know you are unable to rent a car.
I Don't Have a License
If you do not have a valid driver's license, please let the Assimilation Team know via the Submit a Request form prior to booking travel.
If travel is already booked: Still submit a request and inform us to cancel your car rental. Do not just no-show for pickup, as we will be charged.
Alternative Transportation Options
If you don't have a license or are unable to drive for any other reason, you may utilize ride share services such as Uber, Lyft, Taxi, etc. You will have to pay for these rides out of pocket initially, but you are able to expense them for reimbursement.
Reimbursable Rides
The following rides are expensable:
- Your initial ride to the airport
- The ride back home from the airport
- Rides from your hotel to the site and back to the hotel on your scheduled work days
Non-Reimbursable Rides
Examples of rides that are not reimbursable:
- Rides to a restaurant
- Rides to see a local attraction
- Rides to and from team dinners
- Rides to the grocery store
If Paying Upfront Is a Challenge
If paying for these rides upfront presents a challenge:
- Talk to your leadership – There are likely other associates staying at the same hotel that you can carpool with
- As a last resort – You could use your per diem card and submit the expense for reimbursement
