If you've lost your Government ID during your assignment, please take the following steps with the DMV:
- If you think your ID was stolen, file a police report immediately
- Check your state's DMV website to see if they allow you to complete a replacement request form
- If your state allows you to file a replacement request online, fill out the form with your personal information that matches with the records on file with your state's DMV
- Next, you will submit the form and pay a fee ranging from $15-$30 depending on your state. You will be taken to a confirmation page, it is a good idea to either print this page or take a screenshot for your records
- Please note: Most states will allow you to print a temporary license or registration document instantly when you replace it online. (Even if you don’t have access to a printer, you can simply download the PDF to your phone)
Please follow the steps below if you are flying, and have lost your Government ID:
- Arrive at the airport extra early, and tell the officer at the TSA security checkpoint what’s happened
- The TSA officer may ask you to complete an identity verification process which includes collecting information such as your name, current address, and other personal information to confirm your identity
- There are several forms of identification that you can use to pass through the TSA check after losing your ID:
- Library card
- Business Card
- Student ID
- Passport card
- Additional ID with a photo
Please follow the steps below if you are picking up your rental car, and have lost your Government ID:
- It may be difficult to pick up your rental, but having the police report and/or temporary license on hand will help
- Check with the rental location you are using to see if they accept temporary licenses and if there are other requirements you must meet
- If you are unable to pick up your rental car after losing your ID, please notify your coordinator(s) or the Assimilation team
- You can also use a rideshare such as Uber or Lyft on your assignment and expense them
We understand that losing your ID can be stressful; these steps can help ease the stress of getting a replacement while on your assignment. It can help if you keep a photo of your license/passport/or drivers license number stored on your phone in an encrypted digital wallet. This will allow parties like police and rental car companies to verify your identity on the spot, should you not have your ID. Please make sure you are following all state and federal guidelines and contact the Assimilation team via the Submit a request form for any issues.
